Question:

Help! Plank for 3 minutes! abs? volleyball?

I have to do a fitness test and pass it to make varsity... the only thing im having trouble with is the plank!

i hit a little over a minute before i give out. i have one month until i have to do it. I plan on practicing every day, any tips???????

  1. Wow. 3 minutes is a long time to do the plank. vballa is right, there are tons of great athletes who can't even do it. Just practice and do your best.

I hate doing the plank too.  Just practice everyday in a stable place (not your bed!).  When you're doing it, get into like a trance state so you will be focused.  If you want you can close your eyes and concentrate yourself.  That is what I do and it works for me.  They make us do it for as long as they want during the warm ups, counting to 10 every time.  Hope this helps and good luck!

  3. Wow, that's tough luck. I know a lot of great players who can't do a plank for 3 minutes.

    Is your coach really going to cut everyone who can't do that?

    If you just do a plank to failure every day or every other day, you should make it. Good luck!

  4. hey... you just have to focus on breathing... thats the main thing... and keep your abs flexed...dont relax them... also let your back and abs work together.. singing a song in your head always helps...thats what i did when i had to run the 2-mile track... lol... like on finding nemo..."just keep swimming, swimming, swimming,,,," well just keep singing haha

  5. It helps to keep your feet far apart. Dont think about the pain ur going through and think about a guy ur in love with or sumthin else. For some odd reason it helps me to groan.

  7. Its easier if you keep your body straight dont let yourself push your back up or down that actually makes it harder.

    Also try breathing deeply at a steady rate and focus on it. When your training do them in sets like 1min rest for 1 min then do another one and do that like 3 times. The next day try only resting for 30 sec between one of the sets. Then start increasing the time you hold them for.
