I am trying to make reservations and I have NO IDEA what area I should stay in. I went on Hotwire.com and they have a room for $84 a night in the O'Hare Airport North ORD area. I have no idea what that means. IS that a good area, Is it far from many attractions?

I would like to be in an area were we can just walk to everything.

I am interested in just about everything just not the bar/club scene.

  1. No No No bad idea.... go down town you have more places to see like lake michigan lincoln park zoo sears tower and navy pier.... way more interesting place

  2. Absolutely not.  I was just talking to my wife yesterday and wondering how many tourists pick a hotel near the airport thinking they are close to downtown.  It will cost you at least twice as much in a hotel to be downtown, but you will save nearly that much on a round trip cab from O'Hare.  Pick something near the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Ave), Millennium Park, or similar.  A decent hotel is the Holiday Inn City Center.  If you don't like that one, look at hotels within a mile or so from there.  You will be in the heart of the city and very happy.

  3. No no!  Bad place to stay! That is far from everything you will probably want to see.  When looking for hotels in Chicago, if you want to be close to tourist attractions, you will want to pick somewhere in the Loop area or on the Magnificent Mile.  Gold Coast would be ok too.

  4. It's pretty far from where more tourists like to hang out, which is the downtown/ Michigan Ave area. About a 20 minute drive on the expressway. About 45-60 minutes on the train (Blue Line). About $40 cab ride.

There are no attractions near O'Hare, as I said most are downtown. You are going to end up spending money anyway so the best thing to do is spend it on a hotel downtown, maybe on Michigan Ave. That way you can walk to most of your destinations or pay $2.00 for the bus or train.

    Good luck!

  5. NO NO NO!! Don't stay at O'hare.  That's the humongous Airport!! Unless you enjoy staring at planes and hearing them fly over your hotel room, and don't enjoy actually seeing Chicago. You could take the blue line subway in from there, but its like an hour ride. Definitely stay downtown, much more interesting. Trust me.
