I have been ice skating for about 7 months now, i have lessons on a weekly basis, but i suffer with terrible cramp when i skate, i recently bought my own ice skates as i thought the cause of the cramp would be the hire skates, these have not helped. I bought insoles with arch support, but these still have not helped either, i have been told everything from, eat bananas, to stretch your feet before skating, but nothing works! its got to the point where i spend more time off the ice resting me feet than i actually spend skating!

Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me pleeeeeeeeeeease??

  1. There is a company called Vitop that makes bandages and stuff that will help relieve pain. The U.S. army uses these to relieve pain and to help heal wounds quicker.

I know this because my grandfather was one of the original creators.

  2. the hire skates are cramping because they are too broken in.

the new skates cramp because the leather is new and they will take some more time to break in.

also, the difference between the rentals and the new skates makes your feet hurt. you just have to work through it. i know it hurts.

  3. i had an issue sorta like that when i first took up ice skating and found out to my surprise that i was just tying my skates to loosely.

maybe you're not tying them tight enough?

if not that maybe your feet are just oddly shaped? a friend of mine has a horrible time ice skating because of her feet shape disturbingly enough, haha.

  4. I'm quite positive that you are curling your toes when you skate causing cramping of your foot.  Your foot should remain completely flat inside your skate when skating.  This could be b/c you're not tying your skates tight enough, but not necessarily.  Go to the pro shop or a coach and have them checked, then try skating and pay attention to whether or not you are curling your toes.

    Hope this helps!

  5. the skates might not of been broken in yet or u are wearin to tick of socks
