Hi, i'm 21, from VA and pregnant with my first child. I'm guessing I'm right around 5 weeks and my first prenatal visit is May 20. I'm getting married this summer and super excited about both but there's one problem, no insurance!!!

I work for the post office as a Temporary Rural Carrier but since i'm just a temporary I cannot get the great benefit's the post office offers like insurance. I'm currently trying to find another office that needs a rural carrier assistant ( they get benefits) but so far no luck.

My husband to be has worked with Sprint for 2 years and therefore had health insurance that I would be able to get on but he recently has been screwed over by his boss and will be leaving the company here shortly.

This is really stressing me out and I don't know what to do. I need to go to my doctor's visits but without insurance it will break me.

I need advice, please help this situation is putting me in tears! I'm desperate!

  1. You need to go and apply for medicaid. They are good in helping pregant women. Temps will most likely meet medicaid expectations and if not your state should have low income insurance which social service can direct you to.

  2. Many women are faced with the dilemma of becoming pregnant with no medical insurance or switching jobs or plans when they are already pregnant.  Please you have rights to ask what the government can help you.  Your husband to be is a tax payer and you are entitle to these benefits.  Please go to this websites that is government service for you.

This is another site that might help you.

Good luck on your new and happy life with your new life.

  3. I would suggest getting it now before something happens. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price, they have also multiple programs for pregnant women.

    Go to: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Ref...

  4. If you don't make more than $20,800 you qualify for FAMIS http://www.famis.org/

If you don't qualify you should really consider getting married by the justice of the peace and getting on your boy friends policy. You can still have you wedding this summer.

He may need to stick it out at Sprint just to get you covered. After you get on the plan if he leaves Sprint you will be able to keep the coverage under COBRA. This will be expensive but it is an option. I would not let him leave sprint until he has another job lined up with benefits.

  5. As previously posted, if you do not qualify for medicaid (and many states are very liberal with income allowances for pregnancy) you may want to ask your dr and the hospital you will be delivering at about a discounted cash rate. Most have them!

This is a link to the VA Medicaid Handbook that will answer many of your questions:

Here is a link that explains medicaid and all the other programs available. There is also info on eligibility and appying for assistance:

  6. Contact your local SRS office. They will check your income and ask you a butt load of questions but you should be able to qualify for assistance from the state. Like a medical card.

  7. um, why don't you go on medicaid? I think they have a special program for pregnant woman:
