I'm going to a work dinner for my boss to celebrate her pregnancy.

Besdies our boss, there are 3 women that will be drinking and 2 underaged girls (including me) that are going.

Is it okay for me to ask the women to NOT put their drinks on the entire table's check?

  1. They need to pay for their own drinks...it's insensitive to drink at this sort of function.

  2. Personally  I would tell them that since I don't drink they will have to pay for their own alcoholic drink(s).  The one pregnant shouldn't be drinking alcoholic drinks at all.  And what examples for the under aged girls.

    Whose paying for the dinner?

  3. Only if you're splitting the check evenly.  If that's the case, and you're not drinking, you have every right not to share in the expense of the drinkers.  Ask them to put drinks on a "bar tab."

Another way to handle this would be to ask for separate checks.  Sometimes restaurants have a policy that prohibits separate checks.  If that's the case then it's okay to speak up and tell the drinkers they should pay for their drinks separately.  They may become disgruntled.  That's okay.  You shouldn't have to share in the expense of someone elses drinking.  Drinks are expensive.
