Help!! Red eyes from wearing contacts?

3 nights ago, I left my contacts in while sleeping. This morning, when I put my left contact on, it seemed like the contact wasn't in my eye because my eye was still blurry so I thought I dropped it somewhere. But, I then found out it was actually in my eye so I took it out then put it back in. After I put it back in, it was clear but I noticed that there was a red-looking bloody mark near the outer corner of my eye. What could this be? I'm so scared! :(

  1. it's probably just red-irritation from leaving your contacts in overnight. if it gets any worse or hurts more the next day i would seek medical attention, but i wouldn't worry too much now

  2. You are experiencing contact lens acute red eye.  It is a common condition for contact lens wearers, indicating swelling of the front part of your eye (cornea) and a lack of oxygen to the eye....very unhealthy for the eye.  I suggest you either a) get a pair of glasses for times when you forget to take your contacts out, or b) ask your eye doctor about getting continous wear contacts which you can sleep in.

  3. It could be an irritation caused by your eye not getting enough oxygen while the contact was in. You do not say if you have pain in that eye. Is it tearing? If you do go to the doctor, this may be something to be concerned about. If not, my advise is to leave your lenses out for a few days and wear your glasses. Give your eye a rest and because your eyes will get the additional oxygen, nature should take care of itself. My son had this happen and he was away at college. I paniced and sent him to the eye doctor up there, it turned out time and nature were the solution.
