Question:

Help! Seeking Nice, Safe hotels in Paris for $100 or less! Near Downtown and/or Ival Tower. Pardon My Spelling

My family and I are spending spring break in Paris, and someone in my family asked me to find a good hotel for about $90 but $100 is fine. We want to stay there for about a week, so whatever you can find and where you found it would be very helpful please! Also if you have any tips or resturants to go to that would be great. And I was wondering, is the Mona Lisa in Paris? because we got this book that is explaining Paris and THe Davinci Code together. Just remember to put where you got your info from whether you have been there yourself or got it from a book or website. By the way, I'm talking about Paris, France though you probably know that from the Ival Tower, again please pardon my spelling. Thanks!

  1. I'll offer the same advice I recently gave someone else: you might want to consider Etap. It's a hotel chain that has small but clean rooms that are fully-equipped with a shower, toilet, and TV. While they're not right by the Eiffel Tower, Paris is very compact, so if you were to stay at any of their hotels in Paris, you'd never be more than a half hour away by métro (the Parisian subway), tops. I stayed there about 4 years ago and was satisfied.

  2. That's the Eiffel Tower.

$100 is a little less than 75 euros. That, quite frankly, is pushing the lower limits of a hotel that will be acceptable to the average American family.

I suggest before you book any hotel in Paris you google its name and read every review you can find. And when you do be aware that a lot of hotels have figured out that people do this and so insert phony positive reviews.

I can't tell from your question how many people are in your group. Hotel rooms in Paris tend to be much smaller than those in the USA. So you can't count on fitting a family of three or four in one room especially since there is likely to be only one bed.

If you will add some detail to your question to include how many are in your party I can make a specific recommendation.

And yes, the Mona Lisa is in the Louvre Museum in Paris.

A bit of disagreement with the previous answer...I loath Rick Steves and regard his books as utter junk. (I have a certain admiration for his skills as a businessman in peddling this stuff to witless American tourists).

  3. I've traveled to Paris several times and sort of know the landscape a bit. I did a quick check at a favorite website to find listings for a double @ less than 85 euros. The list is below.  Part of the difficulty in finding listings is that, depending on when you book, the exchange rate can change daily so the value of US dollars will fluctuate daily. You might also try Rick Steve's, "Europe Through the Back Door" as a resource. His travel books are simply the best for Europe. He has a book specifically on Paris which I'm sure you can find @ Amazon or Barnes & Noble...it's worth checking out. In it, you'll find itineraries for various lengths of time...sort of "the best of Paris" type tours. Last, don't forget the Hostels....they often have rooms for families travelling together...they are pretty "spartan", but they are always clean and safe.  Mona Lisa is in the Lourve and it's the Eiffel Tower....safe travels!
