  1. Ok first of all, make SURE absolutely SURE that it is a moccasin, because if it is harmless dont kill it. I think you should a pest exterminator, or anyone you know that specializes in that field. Maybe try calling a pet store and asking for help. Just stay calm and if you see one BE CAREFUL! If they bite, the victom will need medical attention IMMEDIATELY!

  2. You will either have to call an animal control specialist or an exterminator. Either may be able to catch the snakes or advise you on how to keep them off your property.

  3. It would be helpful if you said where you live, both to determine what type of snakes you have in your area, and what to do about them.

There is only one species of moccasin in the US. There are many non-venomous "water snake" species around the country, many of which closely resemble moccasins. It is imperative that you know which species you are dealing with.

As for outside help, generically speaking most animal control departments won't come out for snake calls. You can call a professional pest control service (big $$) or you can check to see if you have any reptile clubs in your area. Most clubs have members who will be willing to help to humanely relocate the intruding reptile, and to teach you how to make your property less appealing to the local snake population.

Here in San Antonio we have a local association, and several of the members will respond, free of charge, to snake calls within the city limits. Hopefully there is a similar group in your area to help you.

One thing you might want to try from a prevention standpoint is to spread a mixture of crushed mothballs and dirt around the outside of the house. This "home remedy" is widely used in our area as a deterrent. The theory is that snakes don't care for the smell of camphor from the mothballs. Right or wrong, it seems to work pretty well.

Hope this helps!! Feel free to contact me directly if you have any further snake questions ....

  4. i have heard that you could use malph balls to get ride of them they dont like the ammonia

  5. I would call animal control. They can search the area and do whats needed. Good luck on the baby! Congratulations! Hope this helps!
