Help!! Sunburn won't heal!!?

I am on medication that makes me susceptible to sunburn. I was already fair skinned. At the time, I didn't realize how much the medicine would affect me. I was outside in 100 degree weather on a tennis court for 6 hours and surprisingly I got burned. I put on sunblock but I still got burned.

My hands got burned the worse. If you make the letter L with your thumb and pointer finger, I got burned all along the L on both hands. It also hurts when I touch it. It is a deep dark red and has a thick leathery feeling. It only hurts when I put my hands in direct sunlight without sunblock on them.

It has been six weeks now and the burn has not gotten any better. Is there anything I can do to help it heal and prevent scaring.

  1. Well, you could always take a bath in Aloe Vera, might be a little expensive though =P. And if the sunburn has been lasting that long, you really should go see a doctor. If it turns out that it IS Skin Cancer, there really is much that can be done. Since you were on that medication you probably shouldn't have gone out for 6 hours in 100 degrees...

    Hope you get better!

  2. Put aloe vera on the burn it relieves pain and also has natural medicines to help the burn heal without scaring.

    Hope i helped:)

  3. I know that you've probably heard the aloe vera thing A LOT...believe me...but it really does help if you keep reapplying it. If you store it in the fridge, it can give you more of a relief when you first put it on.

Mix a half-water, half-vinegar solution and apply it to the burn with a spray bottle or soaked cloth. This will sting a little bit at first, but it definitely pulls the burning sensation out of your sunburn.

Ice packs (in small amounts of time) and cold cloths or compresses will also help to minimize the length of time that you have redness and should help with the swelling.

Take lukewarm (room temperature) BATHS. Taking showers with too high of a water pressure could increase your pain. Taking a too-cold bath won't help, and will make you freezing. And a too-hot bath runs the risk of burning you even more, or irritating the burn that you already have.

Make sure that you drink PLENTY of water, in order to keep your body hydrated so you don't develop a fever. If you do develop a fever, take an acetaminophen or an ibuprofen to help get rid of the fever and to minimize inflammation and swelling.

If your sunburn is really bad and seems to be very painful, you may want to go see your doctor and get a prescriptive treatment.

  4. well u probly have canser that sucks for U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. ouch, what medication are you on? It might be time to see the dr if it has been that long in the healing. Without knowing the medication you are on I can only suggest you use aloevera gel to help relieve the burning pain and drink lots of water to help replenish the moisture in the skin. When you are burnt it draws alot of fluid out of the body, so drink lots of water.

You might benifit taking some grape seed extract or some other high concentrated antioxidant to help in the repair of the tissure, found in all health food shops.

  6. Since it is not improving, you really need to see your doctor.

In the meantime, keep hydrating yourself with 8 glasses of water per day and only lukewarm showers.
