  1. apoplectic:  this means it can cause a stroke. Usually it's used in an exaggerated way: "When my mom saw my report card, she was downright apoplectic!" ;)

volition: refers to the will to do something or making a choice. Ex. You can only make the necessary changes through your own volition.

elude: to escape or get away from something

invective: an invective is an insult or abusive statement

    obstreperous: stubborn, rebellious

    acrimonious: harsh or bitter

fraught: if something is "fraught" with something, it is loaded with something or has a lot of it. ex. The road to success is fraught with challenges.

assuage: to ease something. Ex. I tried to assuage my daughter's fears.

benign: harmless or mild, or gentle. A tumor can be benign or cancerous, and a kind person can be described as benign.

auspicious: tendency to be favorable. My academic career has had an auspicious beginning.

haughty: someone who is haughty is arrogant or overly proud, stuckup

myopic: near-sighted. SOmeone can be literally myopic and need to wear glasses, or you can describe someone as myopic if s/he "can't see the forest for the trees" or has poor judgment.

acquiescence: compliance or being agreeable. If someone is acquiescent, they are likely to bend to someone else's will, or readily listen to his/her boss or parents. S/he may be acquiescent in a situation or as a general character trait. It's typically situational.

    Hope this helps.
