Help! The dishwasher won't work

Question

I put the dishwasher on as normal, then opened it after about five minutes. The element had heated up before it had filled, so I switched it off. Now when I switch it on the light is on for program 1, and if you try to select a program it just beeps every time you press the button!
Any ideas?
