Question:

Help - Tiling a shower floor

I have read a lot about tiling shower floors and the presloping that must be done. All the examples assume a center situated drain. My shower is the size of the bathtub that is removed (rectangle) and the drain is at the end, 1 ft from the wall. if I am preloping 1/4 in per ft of distance, one side of the floor will be much higher than the other due to the non-centered drain. Whats the best way to proceed? Thanks for the help

  1. You could move your drain to the center of the shower, just extended the drain pipe.

  2. Wich ever one of these people you deside to go with. stick to the 1/4 inch per foot.

  3. its not as noticable when your showering. if your capable and its possible, relocate the drain where ever you prefer.

  4. the shower drain should adjust for height , you will have to raise the shower  drain to compensate for the distance from the furthest end than bring up mud base  to the appropriate height , than fill in  the short end of the shower floor to the correct height .

  5.    Not much you can do..Best thing you can do is to make the long slope  of approx an inch drop is to make it as flat as possible on the slope to the drain.. You dont stand on the 1 end usually anyway so the slope won t be as bad there. You ll notice it but you ll have to have it..The pre slope you mention doesn t   have to be that severe since a preslope goes under the pan and only prevents water from setting on the pan and pooling. Put some pea gravel around the drain base to keep the weep holes from clogging. What has caused my most repairs is water pooling and weeping up the walls when weep holes clog up.. You sound like you ve done your research   GL

  6. Yea ! Thats it ! You can make the rise even less but it has to be strait without any ripples or you may get puddling.

  7. Continue reading and buy a book that is on tileing and folow the directions that is truly the best way good Luck

  8. you'd be looking at about 1" slope over approx 48" which is not a huge notice but if you went about a little more than 1/2 that you'd be ok

  10. Ok, You got to use this product. It's a kit and has been used in europe for years. It is one of the best ways for to do it DIY. If your going to use another way you have to water proof it with hot tar or a rubber liner that isn't easy to do. This kit uses a water proof felt and you can goto the web site and watch a video on how to do it. Best thing is you can order them from HomeDepot. http://www.schluter.com/8_4_kerdi_shower...
