when I went to collect my winnings the guy turned round and said that I only left £10 on the counter instead of £20 (even thogh I'm sure I left a £10 note and ten quid in change... so anyway he said he changed my betting slip to £5 EW. I only live over the road and he knows me. Anyway my question is, if he accepted the £10 EW bet is he llowed to change it? I've beenback and he says I'll have to see the owner tomorrow morning, I'm not sure what the law is on this one...

  1. In the U.S. it is up to the person placing the wager to make sure the pari-mutual ticket is correct and to cancel the ticket before the race if there is a mistake. If you are a regular customer then talking with the owner is your only alternative, but it may not yield the result you would like. The onus in wagering is nearly always placed on the customer.

  2. OK, so, if he rung the bet up for £20, and you only left £10, would he not have mentioned it as soon as you tried to pay? since otherwise his till would be down.

I also assume they operate a computerised till system, which would mean if you had given him £20 and he has altered ur stake to £10, he would be a tenner up when he cashed up his till, and vice versa.

This is extremely hard to sort out, if you have placed a bet in an independant betting office, although, they should probably sort this out, as they wouldnt want to lose a good customer.

If However the betting shop was a LADBROKES, you should know better, because there all theiving b*star*s in there.

Basically there is nothing to protect you in this case, because by placing a bet in the office, you agree to work by their rules, there will be a rules poster and on there, it will say something about it.

  3. if you have the slip,it states that the £20 transaction was successful and you will be paid accordingly.you stand your ground on that one!!!!!!!!

  4. you should have  your betting slip cant change wats on there

  5. that happened to me ,I put £10 e-w on a horse, but at the bottom of my slip I had written £10 instead of £20,he paid me out on £5 e-w,I was livid,I stood my ground, and got all my money back.My advice is don,t take anything less than you should be getting, they will back down.Greedy swines.

  6. See the owner as he suggests. Do NOT part with the betting slip to them . If you have on it the stake of £10 e.w. and the printout on the bottom also says £20 staked, then he Will pay you. Any dispute tell them that you will take it to the RACING POST to arbitrate. They should then come down in your favour and they will Have to pay..

  7. If you are 100% sure you're right then don't let it go.

The slip has the exact time printed on it and this can be used to check the CCTV

  8. Sounds like hes fiddling the books and took £10 and pocketed it thinking the horse wouldnt come anywhere.  There should be cctv.

  9. you have no rights legally when placing a bet, it is still legally deemed as a matter of gentlemans honour not legal contract. your betting slip should tell you exactly what bet was placed.

speak to the owner, he should not want the negative attention although a bookies sole purpose in life is to relieve you of your money.

    hope this helps.

  10. you have the betting slip.......... as good as cash sweetheart

  11. Gambling debts, which this transaction has now become, are not legally enforceable.

  12. you sound like a nice bird, did you have a f a g in the corner of your mouth when you was in there

  13. You should have a betting slip which would explicitly say what bet was placed. Never leave a betting shop without it.

  14. its a difficult one,but its not a gambling debt if you can prove he stole your £10. I Wish you all the best.
