  1. Just buy a take out and those massive bottles of water or go to a friend or relatives house for meals and it will be over before you know it!

                                                good luck. x

  2. 8 AND a half hours will obviously test you to the extreme!

Perhaps a substancial support group of friends, relatives &/or possibly even the civil servants of the police department & firehouses will be required to enable you to cope with such a disaster like those poor people in those hurricanes & Chinese Earthquakes & central USA Tornadoes.

I'd be at the local McDonald's grindin on a big breakfast first, followed by a quarterpounder brunch, double quarterpounder with bacon & fries fer lunch & cross over to the tavern for a full afternoon of drinking extra cold beer!  Of course I'd have to git home by 1630 to be sure the freezer is ready to refreeze my frosty mugs fer my late nite brews...

You'll be in all our prayers that you do not suffer too severely Thursday

  3. stock up on food that does not need heating like tinned food

or just stay round a friend or relatives house for the duration.

u could maybe on Wednesday make food heat it up and it will just need to be eaten on the following day!!!!

  4. Keep your fridge and freezer closed to preserve the cold temps.

Unless you're housebound or have committments that mean that you can't leave the property, perhaps going out for the day? If you have a reason for not being able to leave the house then there will probably be a local organisation that can assist you.

If not, then if you have a gas hob you should be alright to cook and boil water.

  5. unless your housebound have a day out then you,ll never know it happened.

  6. Put hot water in a thermos flask at like 7 and make tea and stuff with that. eat cold food, coz it's only for like 8 and a half hours. you could go out and eat.

  7. Gosh  it is not that long, you can prepare some simple things that doesn't need refrigeration or get your a cooler put lunch meat , fruit water and such in  it and have a thermos for your hot beverage.

  8. If you cannot live for eight and a half hours without food or tea after 8PM at night, then you must have the metabolism of a humming bird, or a shrew.

Do you actually eat or drink tea after 8PM at night?

At 7:30 PM that night make yourself a pot of tea, and put it in a tea cozy, to keep it warm for hours.  Make yourself a sandwich (or two) while waiting for the pot to boil.

Put everything away, and don't open your fridge the rest of the night.  Make sure you know where a flashlight is, and get yourself a good book to read.

You are probably going to sleep through most of this power outage anyway.  The only thing you are going to "notice" is how quiet it is with all the electrical gadgets not running.

At 7:30 PM you should also unplug your valuable electronics, like your computer.  That way if the turn the power on, and there is a power surge, it will not fry your electronics.

  9. Drink cold water or cordials

    Eat salads

Wrap up in extra sweaters if it is cold

  10. It's only eight hours! Try it for three weeks like when the Ice Storm of '98 hit! Look, just have sandwiches and vegetables on hand. Keep the fridge closed and the freezer too. The standard freezer keeps things frozen for 24 hours or more as long as it is kept closed. (Yes you can open it to take something out, but don't stand there with the door open!) Any dairy products in your fridge, i.e. milk, cheese, etc, should be kept in a cooler place. Just take a cooler, put a couple of trays of ice in it and put your dairy products in there. You'll be fine. Besides, those time estimates are always on the long side. I'd bet it won't take as long as they say.

  11. you could always have a thermus of hot water for your tea, PB and J is always good and read a good book

  12. Danielle, DO NOT panic!

You can purchase a large cheap flask and fill it up with tea/coffee/soup.

    Have a warm bath/shower before 8.00am.

Make yourself sandwhiches to set you up for the day.

The electric will e back on @ 4.30.

    It's not TOO bad

  13. Go and buy a small gas stove so you can boil a pan of water for tea.....and just make some sandwiches....or go out to the pub.   You can get a small camping stove for about £15 and then you have it for future emergencies.
