We just began using our new oven and we have already been baking the cake for 30 minutes when we are only supposed to bake for 23. And the center is totally unbaked batter. What should i do??? The edges are already burned.

  1. dear god dont do what that poster suggested, unless you have a lot of icing, and unpicky party guests. did you follow the directions exactly, as far as timing what dimension pan to use etc? they are all very important, as well as making sure your oven is up to temperature. preheat for an appropriate amount of time. also, is your oven a convection oven or a conventional oven? make sure your recipes timing is based on the right kind of oven you have

  2. trim around the edges and spoon out the batter..make it look like a bunt cake

  3. cut the edges off when it's done and put a bunch of icing on it.

  4. If it's not cooked in the middle and burnt on the outside then the temp is too high. Turn it down! It'll take some time, it has to cook slowly. If it's not in time for your party, well there's nothing you can do except start again and make individual ones.

  5. well go to wal-mart really quickly and buy a cake

or try baking the cake again and cover the edge w/ frosting

okay its only an idea but watev!

  6. Cover the edges of the cake with aluminum foil and just leave the middle exposed.  When it's finally done, trim the edges and crumble the cake.  Depending on the flavor of the cake, grab some jello instant pudding  (any kind that would go with the flavor) and cool whip and layer them in a pretty dish and make a trifle out of it!  It's an easy fix and it still looks pretty (plus it's super quick!).  Hope this helps!

  7. Scrap the whole idea of a cake.

Get to the grocery store quick!

Get 2 large bags of oreos, 2 cans of chocolate pudding, 2 tub of whipped cream, and a bag of gummy worms.

Go to the plant section and get a planter pot (a cheap one) that is about the size of a cake.

    Make a dirt cake!

Pulse all of the oreos in a blender/food processor/your mighty hands and mix 1/2 of them with the pudding.

Pour into the bottom of the planter.

Put the gummy worms on top.

Put the whipped cream on top of that.

Put the rest of the oreo crumbles on top of that.

Quick and fast, and a delight for everyone.

  8. OUCH!!!  It's going to be hard to salvage that with the edges burning.  The only way I could see something working is to turn down the oven temp and try to cook the inside and then scrap the burned parts off provided the burned smell/taste didn't permeate too deep in the cake.  It sounds like something was wrong with the recipe or you had the oven too hot.

    Good luck!

  9. Wrap 4 layers of foil round the outside loosely, and stick about 10 steel knives in the battery bit, and whack oven up to full steam.

If the top burns, slice it off. - you need it set not pretty.

The foil should stop the outside burning, and the cutlery will conduct the heat into the centre. When cooked - they should slip out easily.

Use ready-roll icing - or serve it hot with custard !

  10. hmmm is your cake in the middle rack of the oven?  i would say, wait for the entire thing to cook through, and if it is too burnt, and you cant trim the edges without destroying the cake, i would probably head out to the bakery or grocery store and pick one up.....

  11. Cut off the burned bits and discard. Using a serrated knife, cut the remaining cake into cubes. Get out serving dishes or one large serving dish and layer the cake cubes, fresh fruit and whipped cream into the bowl. Now it's a trifle.

Don't have whipped cream? No problem - use melted vanilla ice cream.
