  1. think of is as walkie talkies, 1-way...your remote sends a signal to your alarm system. 2-way... your remote sends a signal to your alarm system and your alarm system can send a signal back to your remote.  this is usually for remotes that tell you when your car is unlocked, what doors are open, if your alarm is going off ect, ect.

  2. A 1-way remote sends signals from the remote to the alarm.

A 2-way remote can also receive signals from the alarm back to the remote.  If you're not close to your vehicle, your remote will confirm that the alarm armed or disarmed.  If you have remote start, the remote will confirm that the vehicle started successfully, and will notify you when it shuts off.  Your remote can notify you if the alarm has been triggered.

A 2-way remote will have either flashing LED lights, or an LCD screen that shows the vehicle status.  It will usually also have chirps built in to get your attention.

2-way remotes will need to have their batteries changed much more frequently than 1-way remotes.  The remotes are also larger, and much more expensive to replace.

Some Viper alarms include a 2-way remote and a 1-way remote.

  3. Basically, a 1-way remotetells the alarm what to do, whether to disable the alarm, unlock the doors, etc. The downside to that is if you accidently press a button for example unlocking the doors you won"t know you just did that. The good thing about it is that it is cheapier to replace and to buy.

A 2-way remote either has an lcd screen or led light telling you it is recieving a signal from the alarm. This type is a little more expensive but does what a 1-way remote can"t.
