Help - Vista and excel / word files?

I just got a new PC running Vista basic, I tried to open excel / word files from my memory stick which it cant do. It says to open with a suggested file (notepad) now all my files are unreadable. How can I change them back to excel / word files

  1. Microsoft 2007 files can not be opened with Microsoft 2003 Programs.

    Download the Microsoft Compatibility Pack that is found on Microsoft.com


  2. Do you have MS Office on that computer? If not, you won't be able to read the files.

  3. Do you have Microsoft Office installed on your new PC?

    If you do have the software installed then try running Excel and then using Excel to open the file from your memory stick. Note that Office 2007 uses a different file type by default (e.g. Excel uses .xlsx as opposed to .xls).

  4. You need to save them as a different version.

    Click on the files and go to properties and change it in there.
