Question:

Help! Weird pains in head?

I suffer from headaches quite frequently. Sometimes they are tolerable but sometimes (ranging anywhere from once a month to once a week) I get really bad headaches. So bad that I can't function normally, I just want to go to sleep. I guess they are migraines but I'm not really sure how to know. The thing is, when I get these headaches I am almost convinced that there is something (more specifically, a tumor) in my brain. I also get sharp, shooting pains inside my head occasionally, usually lasting only a few seconds.

I plan on seeing a doctor about it but I fear she might refer me to a psychologist instead of a neurologist-lol. I don't know if this is a rational feeling or if I'm being somewhat of a hypochondriac.

My question is, Is there a chance this is something more than just migraines? How do I tell my doctor about these feelings without her thinking I'm crazy?

  1. idk ive got a similar problem as u jus try sum tynenal or advil, cafeen and sum sleep that should help

  2. Of course theres a chance, you have a brain, and tumours develop there, did you know though that the brain is incapable of feeling pain? with a tumour depending on where in the brain it is you'd have physical symptoms and possibly fits, inability to do long division for example, the list goes on and on,once you have had a brain scan and if it comes back normal,do not frehypochondria'sisis is no longer used as a term to describe people with heath anxiety, its called HAD health anxiety disorder, a cognitive behaviour therapist will see you for 14 weeks and explore everything you feel is wrong with you, they are not "shrinks".You prob are having migraines, there are very special drugs that play about with chemical receptors in the brain that if you present yourself to a doctor when one starts, you can be evaluated for.You are not crazy, and i hope all goes well for you, keep me posted.

  3. Well there is a good chance that it is only migraines but there is a slight chance there is something more to it. When talking to your doctor look her straight in the eye and tell her about how unusual the headaches are which region they are in and what the pain feels like. BUT DO NOT tell her you are convinced it is something more that will make you seem psychotic

  4. I have exactly the same thing.

My grandfather and great-grandfather and so on had it too. He has had test after test. It's just migrains. I know how painful they are. I suffer badly too. Sometimes to the point where I can't walk, or do anything.

If you're that worried, just tell him/her exactly what you think about it. They'll run tests.
