I decided to take up riding my bike some. So I went for a 4 mile bike ride. I'm so slow. It took me almost 45 minutes to ride the 4 miles and it's pretty flat. There weren't any hills or anything. Yet I'm really tired after I finished? Why? Is it normal to be tired after 4 miles? What should I do to ride longer or faster?

  1. yes its normal to be tired after biking for 4 miles. most people can barely run even 1 mile.

  2. First off, follow everyone else's suggestions. If you don't have a road bike or even road tires, get one. If your bike is full-suspension, lock out the fork if you can. It is normal to get tired after 4 mi; when I ride 20-30 mi a day, I don't feel comfortable until after 8-10 mi of steady cadence. Keep trying and hydrate hydrate hydrate! Don't get discouraged, I am also 19 years old. Maybe you are in too high of a gear too; that can make your body tire out faster because you are exerting yourself more than you need to be. Think of the gears like you would a stick shift car. You downshift to slow down and start out in a lower gear, shifting up to accelerate. Good Luck!

  3. It could have been something you did before the ride. You need water to hydrate. And if you did that it's probably your body is not used to that exercise so maybe It's just tired from the workout. And your legs seem to tire after the more you pedal. And your body seems to tire too.

    So maybe that's why?

  4. rider conditioning? you're not putting proper fuel into your tank. you need to eat foods which will give you energy, and you must stay hydrated. are you out of shape? even at 10mph, 4 miles won't take more than 25 minutes. 4 miles by bike isn't much, so I need to question what your bike is too.

bike issues? what are you riding? full suspension is very inefficient for road riding. even the top end full-suspension rides sap energy from your legs. a heavy, poorly tuned, soft sprung WALLYWOOD special will sap you of your will to live! a BMX bike will go slower over that distance as well..
