Question:

Help. What Should I Cook For A Kid Who Likes NOTHING!?

I am in charge of cooking dinner for my family, right? Well, my mom dad and bro eat most anything you give them.

My sister, on the other hand, is hard to cook for!

I ask her what she wants, she says something that's gross and fatty. I say "But thats so bad for you!" and ask again. She says "I don't know!!! You're a bad cook! All you want to make is egg, salad or fish!!!" She also has a weight problem.

How do I cook something that she'll actually eat thats also not bad for her?

  1. why are you bothering to even ask???

    FIX your dinner and serve

any problems.. NO words Just point at the kitchen..

if this is a child then you need some intervention

    try  1 800 216 0753

  2. Try Rachael Ray's Website...

    http://www.rachaelray.com/kids.php

She has blogs set up just for the kids and for picky eaters.

Also she has great recipes on there that are very kid friendly.

    Good luck!

  3. I would try kraft.com they have some awesome recipes that are easy to make and are healthy.  Also they have a free magazine called whats cooking that has amazing recipes in it!

  4. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink...

not that i'm calling her horse..... of course.... :P

just keep cooking the way you do. if she wants unhealthy things then she can get it elsewhere.

  5. A sandwich I guess

  6. Try something fun yet on the healthy side. Like making your own fish sticks, chicken nuggets etc.... The tell her she can have that or go to bed hungry. Your folks need to get on the bandwagon as well and they need to have her try at least one bite before she can sulk off to her room for the rest of the night. If those options are not available then she will not eat it. You also need to talk to your parents and get them on your side.

  7. As the mother of 10 kids...I learned early on not to cater to each child's likes or dislikes....Granted, I did make an effort to cook meals that were kid friendly....cook what you want...If she doesn't like it she can make herself a sandwich.

  8. Ok. you have a challenge in your hands.

Try to reason with her and talk to her about the benefits of eating healthy

Also what you can do is suggest a day that you can make her favorite meal and all of you have it but she has to do the same when is your turn to make something you like, and so on with the rest of the members.

It takes time to break habits and you are doing the right thing, just have patience and you will succeed.

  9. Grilled chicken... =)

  10. Instead of asking her what she wants, give it to her and tel her she gets nothing else.  I don't remember my parents ever asking what I wanted to eat...

How old is she?  If she's younger, making the foods funner may help...like if you make her a healthy turkey sandwich, use a cookie cutter to cut out fun sandwich shapes?  Maybe she'd be more interested in eating it if she got to help prepare it?  Try to have fun by making things she likes...like pizza, but get your own, healthy, ingredients for the kids to choose from.  Or any other meal she would prefer, like fried chicken, try bread crumbs and olive oil on chicken b*****s and baking them for a healthy take on fried chicken...

  11. If your sister like spaghetti, make her some spaghetti.  Why don't you buy the pasta that has whole grain or the one with omega in it.  Try using ground turkey or lean ground beef.  Make your own shaghetti sauce if you can.

  12. I'm going to agree with the first answer but DON'T BUY KRAFT MAC & CHEESE! (true that bob kraft does much harm to the environment but his foods aren't that healthy anyways) go with ANNIES brand mac and cheese- it tastes great and is REAL food!!!

  13. Chicken is always an alternative for fish! grilled is delicious I'm sure she cant say no to that! also you can compromise do something she likes and something that she has no choice but to eat. make mashed potatoes and steam veggies or white rice as a side she can eat the chicken then. if anything you can also rely on dessert. How about a porfait with lots of berrys and granola or angel cake or even apples with peanut butter.  In cases like this just analize her and beat her to it, if she only like certain foods give her some and take some away in your dinner plates.

  14. The answer:  NOTHING!    Make a lovely dinner for everyone else and give her nothing...maybe that will change her attitude.

If you feel compelled, give her a salad; lettuce, tuna & hard boiled egg, nothing more, just plain sitting on a plate.

  15. Baked chicken, grilled chicken, homemade soup, spaghetti.

  16. Just stick in front of her whatever your having...you shouldnt have to go out of your way just for some brat. Talk to the parents, tell them if they want to get her weight under control they need to tak action, all they have to do is put healthy choices on her plate and eventually she will get so hungrey that she will eat it, just say to her " you will eat it and like it" and evntually she will!

    give back....

  17. Try making some fatty food more healthy....like homemade sweet potatoes fries. Slice up sweet potatoes and bake them until golden brown. Turkey burgers with whole wheat buns. Take chicken breast tenders, soak them in skim milk and roll them in crushed corn flakes. Bake them at 400 for 15 minutes.

You can make a healthy version of almost any foods.

  18. If she's acting like such an adolescent hand her whatever it is you made for dinner and a jar of baby food and ask her to make her choice.

    Try the preschool rhyme

"you get what you get............and you don't throw a fit"

  19. bad food can get addicting, like your body will crave the grease, especially if you smell it (like when you drive past a fried chicken restaurant, it makes you hungry!) so...

try cooking the traditional "fatty" dishes but in a healthier oil. you can still cook chicken but instead of deep frying or greasing it up, try cooking it in a pan and using healthier oil like Canola Oil or Extra Virgin Olive oil.

pretty soon, her body will not crave all the fat she had previously eaten. then, your body will actually crave healthier food. its a slow transition but it is a necessary one. try to pick dinners that have healthy fat and still are tasty like spaghetti and meatballs or homemade tacos made with ground turkey instead of beef.

  20. try cutting up a lot of veggies (carrot sticks, celery, cucumbers, radishes, etc) you can save the veggies in a big bowl of salt water, it will keep in the fridge for days too.

    and serve with ranch dip..

also cut up apples, pears, peaches...

if the food is cut up it is much easier to eat.

not much wrong with peanut butter and jelly too.

  21. Mac and cheese. The cheese has lots of protein and i havent met a kid  who hates it.
