I have just turned on the ingnition and smoke came out from what appears to be, the ignition casing. It smelt like party poppers going off. Any ideas as to what has happened? Only had car for 3mnths (no warranty) so a bit peeved! Its a Ford Fiesta Finesse 'N' reg. Is it worth repairing? Thanks.

  1. Its an electrical fault and sounds pretty dangerous to me, get it checked out before you consider driving it anywhere!

  2. Electrical fault. Take it to a garage and have it looked at by a qualified mechanic. Electrical faults can cause fires!

  3. It looks as though your ignition switch may be short circuiting. So it may well be best to leave to a garage to rectify the problem as electrical wiring may need sorting out.

  4. you have a ignition problum

  5. your ignition switch just released it's magic smoke and needs to be replaced.

  6. Sounds like you may have had bad wiring in the first place, get your ignition switch installed by a pro, the car will be fine. Also, have them look at the re-lay switch.

  7. I you have full coverage don't put the fire out.

  8. Behind the ignition barrel on the steering wheel you have five wires soldered on to the switch assembly. These wires carry a high voltage for the engine start up, more than likely one of the connectors has become damaged and he smell you have is the plastic on the outside of the wire melting.

Take the car back to the garage and get them to change the ignition switch over.

Make sure when they do it that they replace switch and all the cables back to the connector block and not just the switch.

    Ja.
