I am 23 years old, and I have no idea how to swim. All my friends are fluent in swimming unlike me, and I told them Im able to swim. I really want to become a good swimmer, but Im clueless about it. I dont want to go to a public fitness center to learn, I want to learn somewhere else so people wont see me. I feel that if I learn swimming, I'll practice it a lot and I'll become great at it. So help me out, what do I do? Im so confused.

  1. Just tell your friends you don't know how to swim and they will help you. EVERBODY has some there not good at a 23 or older. If they make fun of you just tell them to lay off and help you. IT WILL BE FINE.

  2. Don't be embarrased and my number one tip is to start swimmng in smaller shallow pools ,and also  to lose fear of water, once you overcome  fear of water swimming gets a lot easier,I can give you lessons for free

  3. Okay. Just find a friend or family members house that has a pool and use it. Then MAKE SURE that someone is there watchign you. Someone you trust. Then swim! You'll be like a fishie in no time!! :) Good luck!

  4. go to likE  aprivate pool ownned by a friend or something and start floating . dont be scared bc if u are you will sink.just realx/the pool should be 3-8 ft deep.so start and 3 ft and put your feet against the wall and push.start flapping your feet  and sway your arms n front of you.(make sure heaD IS UNDER WATER.)then you try practicing with your head out of the water.its quite easy and i did this in a full day at the pool. i think i was out there from 10 am to 9 pm

  5. I know how you feel I have a friend who was just like that. Its ok, dont feel embarrassed. A LOT of people dont know how to swim at your age. But if you really dont want to be seen, take private lessons. They might be costly, but its worth it. Youll get better and better.

  6. ok...tricky...you want to learn, but you don't want anyone to teach you...tricky and potentially dangerous.  Maybe you should go to a different town to take lessons.  If not, watch people on youtube, in movies, pictures, books, etc and copy what they do.  Perhaps an old olympic swimming video might help.  Either way - if you're insisting on doing this alone WEAR a LIFEVEST even in your own pool.  Even a great swimmer has trouble swimming dead!

  7. ok so are you wanting to learn how to swim well dont go into the deep end intell you now how to do this put your arms out in front of you and push back and kick with your feet just keep on doing this IN THE SHALLOW end and you will be good at it.  Thats how i learned and im good at it. Hope that helps

  8. First, it's great that you admit that you are confused. You need to learn to swim, and forget if anyone happens to see you learning or practicing; that just has nothing to do with what you need to do to help yourself.

As to where, well the YWCA and YHA used to offer classes for all levels. Check with community resources in your neighborhood and do it. It is no big deal, and you will sure feel a lot more confidence in yourself when you enjoy swimming.

  9. It is unwise to try to teach yourself, just as it was unwise to lie to your friends.

It can take several years to become a good swimmer with decent technique.

My advice is to inquire about lessons at the local YMCA or Red Cross. Many instructors are more than willing to give private lessons, but I personally believe you will learn more in group lessons.

  10. c**p u just reminded me of summer beach and pool and i still have no idea how to swim

  11. Just tell you're friends! If their true friends then they will understand! If one of them has a pool then ask them if you could use it. If you want you can even ask them to help!

    I hope I helped!
