  2. Hi Damsel In Distress,

Yes, it is called the "ZZ" Plant, as well as, the "Z" Plant, Fat Boy, or Eternity Plant (scientific name, Zamioculcas zamiifolia).  It is a plant of the Aroid (Araceae) family and is native to eastern Africa.

The second link gives some interesting information.

The third link provides some information on its care.

    I hope this helps.

  3. I saw your question last night and didn't know the answer--all I could come up with was that it favored a coontie and other members of the cycad family.  Then I walked into Wal-Mart today and saw one--I couldn't believe my luck!  I couldn't wait to get home and answer your question!  The one at Wal-Mart was called a "Z-Z plant", due to it's botanical name, zamioculus zamifolia.

It looked identical to all the views that I looked at on your photos, at least as well as I could tell from memory.
