Help! What is up with my brain?

I tend to have frequent headaches that start on the bottom right side of my head and spread to the back of my eyes. It's very throbbing, and really irritating.

Yesterday night, I started to feel a horrible heachache coming on. It also made me start crying for no reason (I was angry, but not that angry)! It felt like there was too much pressure in my head, and I was upset for no reason at all.

I woke up this morning very dizzy. I can't walk straight, and there's a dull throb on my temples. The base of my right head hurts (as usual) and my ears are "fuzzy".

Does anyone know what is happening? I'm only 17, and taking Accutane. Help?

(I also need to go to work in an hour, so will advil help?)

  1. Could be muscle tension or migraines.  I'd suggest that you go ahead and visit your doctor.  If it is migraines, there can be different causes.  Sometimes getting glasses (or contacts) fixes this problem.  I get similar head ache resulting from a neck injury.

Headache and emotional instability are documented side effects of this drug (among other things).  I'll post some links below regarding side effects.

Such possible side effects should be reported to your doctor.  Today is Sunday, so the doctor isn't in.  You could call a pharmacist instead.  You might stop taking the medicine until you see your doctor.

I hope this helps.  Also note the drug interactions listed on the links.

    Take care!

P.S. I hope you can take the time to read all the links.  One reported side effect is Hair Loss among teenagers. There's some other scary ones too.

  2. UMM with symtoms like this you should goto the hospital....please go and get it checked out thats what they are there for!!!

  3. You could be dehydrated.  Drink some water. Of course Advil might help.  sometimes headaches are hormonal too.

If it persists for over a day you have to go to the doc.  Annurisms are very common these days and they come from not enough minerals in our soil so our veins are weak nowadays.

  4. I would immediately stop taking Accutane as the side affects are what you describe. Find some other medicine which is not so " aggressive".

Try homeopathic medicine. Go to your doctor!

  5. That sounds like a migraine to me. It looks like one of Accutane's potential side-effects is indeed migraine-type headaches. I suffered from regular migraines from age 12 to 19, so I can give you a little advice on coping with the pain.

If you can drop into a drug store and get migraine-specific over-the-counter pills (Advil Migraine to name one), they work wonders. I also noticed that Extra-Strength Motrin fights off migraines as well.

Since over-the-counter drugs aren't for everyone, one thing I can suggest is this: take a small towel and run it under the hottest water you can stand, wring it out, fold it, and put it on the back of your neck. The heat relaxes the tension in the circulatory system which can help alleviate that pressure you're feeling. In combination with taking over-the-counter migraine relief, you should get to a level where you can function at work.

Consult your doctor as soon as you can to let him/her know about this symptom. You may be able to get a prescription for something that will help you out if this ever happens again.

I've also included a web page in my sources about Accutane for you to review.

Feel better soon! Migraines really suck!

  6. I don't know about your headaches, I barely get them but about your ears. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus I always have a ringing in my ears, I hear fine though and I'm guessing it's some what normal.

But including your headaches it could be something more.

  7. As you are under time constraints I will guide you to some answers. I would heartily recommend that you go to your doctor and have a headache workup done. There are many types of headaches migraines, tension, cluster et al. Read the WebMD link below it should help you determine if they are headaches only. I just checked another website and it appears as if all the symptoms you describe are side effects of Accutane. Check the links below, WebMD (utilize the symptom checker). Call your doctor as it sounds almost definitely like an adverse reaction to Accutane. Good luck. I must run and batten down the hatches as Hurricane Fay is coming this way.
