So I have 5 Molly fish and lately I have noticed that 3 of them have large chunks of skin or scales or whatever missing. One of them (Molly 1) even has almost its whole middle missing! Here are some pictures:

I thought it might be fungus or something so I put in a fungus tablet in and 3 days later it did nothing so I put another in and still it did nothing. It actually got worse. So now I'm thinking it might be my gourami or other little orange fish eating them. I don't know what kind of fish the orange one is so here is a picture:

Why is this happening and what should I do before my molly's all die?

  1. I would call a reputable fish store.  Don't call the local Petco, but a large specialty store that sells mostly fish and explain to them what's going on.  You need to act fast if you want to save these fish.  It sounds bacterial, but I would call and ask a professional immediately.  They may be able to provide you with the name of a proper medicine to use that you can buy near you.  And remove your filter cartridges when you add the medicine to the tank.  The carbon usually interferes with the medicines ability to work.  Good luck!

  2. I agree with the other answer, but I though I should mention that that orange fish is a serpea tetra and needs to be in a school of at least 3.
