Help! What to do with Antivirus XP 2008? I tried everything to get rid of it.?

Hi, i got the antivirus xp 2008 today, its been hours and hours since i have gotten it, and spent all this time trying to rid it. okay so, i first read that i should go to safemode, which i did, and once in safe mode the SmitFraudFix program didn't even help at all! in fact in safe mode i couldn't go on the internet everything seemed to be worst. and so i restored my computer, and yahooanswers previous questions, i found that i should download avg, which i ran and didnt work, it didnt even find my antivirus, so i downloaded malwarebytes antimalware, and it found the virus and restarted my computer, and here i am.

my question for you is, why is antivirus xp still appearing on my start menu, and also the pop up of the "warning you have 2688 virus" or "register antivirus xp" seems to all have disapperd so is antivirus really gone? and what can i do to get rid of this malware??

by the way i always had mcafee, i dont know why it didnt detect it, and when i scanned my comp. it didnt detect it either.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and running the following software:

Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

SuperAntispyware: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

SmitFraudfix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p...

Once you have removed it install Avast Anti-Virus and Comodo Pro firewall, then switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE this will stop it returning. (links on my profile)

haha, that happened to me, not all that other stuff. but i did get Antiviris. IT IS SO ANNOYING.it was weeks before i got rid of it. anyway. i found the file on my computer, then deleted it.

simple

just search for antivirs and delete the program all together.

then go to the trash can and delete it there too.

i dont know what kind of computer you have or softwear [vista, dell etc]

so i cant give specific directions.

but just look in files and programs you have.
