  1. For math you could easily improve my practicing/solving more question, and thus making less careless mistakes. However, for science you could memorize the rules. I would hgihly recommend you purchase the REA book for the ACT, its pretty thick and expensive, but theres a science portionin the book and it is very informative. For English/Reading, simply continue to solve more and more questions. I know, it's not the answer you prefer to hear, but really that's all you could do for English. However, if your ethnic background is not american then you could consider taking the TOEFL.

  2. Just check if http://www.theexampapers.com is conducting tests  for ACT.

  3. you can take a practice course through KAplan. or you can get a fat practice book from your local bookstore. both ways work.

  4. Call a local test prep company (mine if you are in AZ) and ask for a score evaluation and consult.  This is a free service.  When you take in your score they will give you specific recomendations on what to improve.  With a huge disparity in your scores (31-17) you are a prime candidate for test prep.  You should see a large improvement.

Unless there is a typo you should be scoring much better in science.  Most of the section only requires the logical processing that you obviously have by looking at your math score.

EDIT: The next ACT is offered many places on September 13th and everywhere October 25th

  5. In my opinion, you should work on increasing your reading speed and comprehension before you even begin studying directly for the ACT. Since there is quite a bit of time between now and the next test (October, I think?), you can probably greatly improve your reading skills by then. Just go to your library and check out books on subjects that you're interested in.

In August, I would recommend starting to study from a book directly designed for the ACT. Read the chapters for English and Reading so you can figure out your strategies on those sections. Then, do a few practice tests, and always go over the answers and read the explanations as to why your answer was wrong. Remember, the ACT doesn't penalize you for guessing so you should never leave a question blank.

By the way, I used a book called "The Real ACT" (it's made by the ACT company)

Good luck on your next test!
