I have a 4-month old lab and she's really cute and everything but what concerns me is that when everytime I cuddle her she wets herself. What I mean is that she pees uncontrollably and then wetting herself while I cuddle her. Why is that? I have two other dogs but they don't do this kind of stuff.

  1. Take her to the vet and have her checked up asap.  She might have problems with her bladder.

  2. its a over excited pup,and labradors are known for weeing themselves with excited,i should know my friends 2 year old labrador wets his self whenever any one makes a fuss of him when they visit or when he meets people in the street.

  3. It's called submissive urination and it's pretty common.  When you cuddle her, she thinks you are dominating her and she gets frightened and is telling you that she is not a threat to you.  Puppies often outgrow this stage, but in the meantime, you might want to handle her a bit differently unless you don't mind getting peed on a lot.

Dogs don't think the same way people do - hugging them, petting them on the head or even hovering over them can make them submissive.  So it's better that you pet her on the chest and speak to her softly and non-threateningly until she outgrows this stage.

  4. i don't know. i suggest you to go ask vet or something

  6. This is a sign of an immature dog or one that is submissive.  Puppies sometimes out grow it but other continue this behavior for their life time.

She may not like to be cuddled.  What if she just laid beside you & let you pet her.  You may be doing harm when you don't intend to.

  7. When puppies get excited they pee. Also, peeing is a sign of submition to it's owner. Don't worry, your puppy should grow out of this. If she doesn't, then you should consult your vet.

  8. She is doing submissive urination. Dogs do not have a language for hugs the way we humans do. This is because they walk on four legs and do not have free arms the way we do.

The closest thing a dog knows to a hug is mounting or placing a paw on another dog's neck and back. Both of these gestures are commonly used for dominance. When you try to hug your dog, she sees this as a dominance gesture, and so she is submitting to you with submissive urination.

  9. Take her to the vet. It is probobly just an infection. They will give you medicine and it will be gone in a week or two.

  10. does she have fear problems?? maybe you should try and socialize her more so she will become more confident. Take her out on walks and let her appraoch other dogs etc. Also maybe taking her to a local dog park would be good too. Once she is used to socialization more she won't be so afraid and she won't pee when she is being cuddled/petted.
