Question:

Help With Babysitting! I Have to Watch a 6th and 2nd Grader....?

Starting soon, I'll have the daily pleasure of babysitting a 6th grade boy and his 2nd grade sister. They're sweet and I can't wait - but I'm a little worried about what activies we can do. I'm supposed to feed them and then help them with homework, but that'll leave a couple hours free! Should I take them somewhere like the park to let them run around? Wouldn't a 6th grade boy be too big for that....? How should I entertain them and make them happy? I don't want to just turn on the TV and let them sit there! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  1. well, the boy will probably just go to the room and do something in his room. the girl, well, maybe you should bring some books and ask her what she likes to do.

    hope i helped! :-)

  2. Definitely have the kids bring a few games, a deck of cards, a ball and maybe a puzzle.

It's waaay easier to watch them at their house for this reason. But not to worry. The kids are going to be stoked that you will actually interact with them and give them so much attention.

I recommend borrowing a book about oragami and paper airplanes from the library. Paper is cheap and these crafts are super entertaining.

I also think the park will help kill a lot of time. You can kick a soccer ball around with the kids to say the least. I always end up passing 1-2 hours at the park easily.

Encourage the kids to bring different games each week. I really think the kids are going to love interacting with you since it is hard to get this kind of attention from parents and teachers.

  3. The boy could very well be at an age that he will not have much interest in doing things with you and his younger sister. I would tell them that they can bring some things with them if they want. Kids tend to enjoy showing people their things and talking about them. If you have time you could get some books at the library that they may find interesting. There are tons of books that also have crafts and activity ideas. There are also tons of websites full of fun things to do with kids. The main thing is to keep finding new things to do. Kids are much better behaved when they have things to do and they stay busy. They will love doing activities with you because they probably do not get much time to do many things at home. If you want to check out my website you may find a few ideas that you can use.
