Write and equation to model each situation. Then solve.

In 1999, 189 physical therapists ran in the new york city marathon. This was 1048 fewer than the number of engineers who ran. How many engineers ran in the marathon?

    If 189 was 1048 fewer, then you just add those two together..and....

    BAM!!! Thats the answer! good luck on that algebra hahaha

    and you know PT's so just add 189 to 1048

  4. The year is irrelevant, the occupations are mostly irrelevant -- all that matters is there are two groups of people.  How big is group B (engineers)?  

    1048+189 = number of engineers that ran

    1237 engineers ran the New York City marathon
