I have found the curriculum for my grade and province only it does NOT outline exactly what needs to be done within each subject. Such as Algebra 1 & 2, Calculus, Geometry and so on in Mathematics. I need to know what needs to be done within each subject; ELA; Science; Social and so on. Things would be alot easier that way. Im not getting anything done this way, not knowing exactly what needs to be done.

Anyone who might know a site that may relate to core subjects, and courses in these can you let me know as soon as possible, Wayyyyy Behind here.

I reside in Alberta, Canada, so things from the U.S. and such will be no help. Also in grade 10. Thank You.

  1. contact you facilitator for info

  2. I live in Alberta. It VERY clearly says in the program of studies what you need to learn each year, especially for math, science and social studies. I know--I've referred to it often http://education.gov.ab.ca/k_12/curricul... . The reason you're not finding Algebra 1, Algebra 2, etc. is because those are AMERICAN subjects. We just have MATH and those topics are covered with in it.

Are you going for a high school diploma? Have you decided which courses you want credit for? You have to follow the same program as kids in school. And which board are you with? Some boards have resources you can rent to make sure you are doing what will meet the program of studies. They have to know that you are going for credit so that they can make sure you do any assessments you need. Your parents have to give you your grades for the at-home portion, it has to be approved of by your facilitator, and for core subjects, you have to take a final exam that the board will provide--worth 50% of your final mark.

Email me if you need more help. I've been homeschooling and helping people with these kinds of details in Alberta for 5 years.

ADDED: Let me just say that the program of studies is there for those who want to follow the program of studies. A lot of homeschoolers here do not follow the program of studies and do their own thing. High school age students who want an Alberta high school diploma MUST follow the program of studies and be evaluated on it. Many homeschoolers choose to not get a high school diploma, either deciding not to go to post-secondary or finding alternative routes into post-secondary, like taking the SATs, portfolio assessments for colleges that do that, etc.

  3. you should probably just send your kid to public school as you obviously aren't competent enough to teach them yourself

  4. Since i'm from the US I don't know what to tell you

US schools do Geometry in 10

    Bilogy with lab in 10

    Foreign language in 10

English Grammar, composition and Reading (classic short stories and plays)

    Advanced World History.

Art, Drama and Music as options

    That's the American 10th cirriculum

Here's the thing an UCLA or Duke or Harvard wants to see

2 Years foreign langauge (you're Candian, french and English works, but you must have the eqivilent of 1 year college or 2 year high school)

Math covering Algebra, Geometry and Trig.  Calculus is an option only for math and science majors

English reading (literature) and writing (essays)

We do STYLE writing (APA, Harvard, Chicago Style)

History of the World, your Local Country, Provicnce and CURRENT POLITICS (we call that CIVICS)

Biology and either Math Chemistry or Math Physics with lab.  Plus a BACKGROUND from Middle or Elementary school in general Earth Science (weather, astronomy, etc.)

    Economics and/or Statistics

Some ARTS course, such as drama, choir, instrument, painting, plastics, etc.

That is the general AMERICAN requirement for SUPER GOOD Universities

If you don't have THOSE basic skills you go to a BABY college (called a CC or JC a 2 year college).

  5. If you are in Alberta then you are registered with a homeschool board and you have a facilitator with that board.

Contact your facilitator and get the information you need - that's what they are there for.
