Question:

Help With Withdrawing My Daughter From Preschool

I want to withdraw my daughter from preschool it says I need to give a two week written notice, and I will.

When I enrolled my daughter, I gave the director of the preschool letters from her doctor stating her last physical and lead. Will I get those papers back, so that I can give them to the director at her new preschool?

  1. if you ask nicely you can get it back or at least a copy to give to the new school

  2. You will need to tell the setting that you want ALL of the paperwork they hold on your daughter. You are entitled to see all paperwork (except in the case of child protection) on your daughter and for settings to work best they need to work on what the child has already done so you'll need any achievement records the setting has. Give them notice though as they may have to gather everything together if they dont have it all in one folder.

  3. They should be able to make a copy for you.  Next time, just ask the doc's office to make a second copy for you.  They may have one in her file they can run off for you, too.

  4. You probably won't get those papers back. Where I live they have to keep them on file, even after a child leaves.

  5. Thank you for being considerate in your policy following...of giving a two week written notice.  :-)  It makes a big difference in enrollment for a preschool/child care.

As others have mentioned, you could ask for them in your written letter.  However, I would also suggest for copies if they are unable to give you the originals.  Most centers have to keep their files together for a few years.  :-)  Your best bet is to call your doctor's office and ask for a second copy...they'd probably even fax it to the new preschool for you.  :-)

  6. I would politely request those papers back when you send in the letter regarding leaving. If they don't give the letters back I would ask for them.

  7. Write a very succinct letter that states something along the lines of:

    "Dear Ms (Director's name)

This letter is to inform you of my intent to withdraw my child, (child's name), on (date of withdrawal).  I am requesting copies of my child's educational file, including a copy of her recent physical and (any other papers you specifically want back).

Thank you for the care and educational services you have provided.

                                                Sincerely,

                                                     (Your name)"

Legally, the preschool must give you copies of all the forms/paperwork in your child's file.  If you request copies in your intent to withdraw letter, that gives plenty of "reasonable time" to fulfill your request.

  8. I would ask for those papers to be transferred in your letter withdrawing your child from the preschool that she is currently in. Be sure to give the address, name and the fax number for the new school.

  9. You probably won't get them back without asking.  I would ask for a copy of her paperwork (her "file") prior to giving your notice.  All preschools are required to keep this information on file and should give it to you.  If you can't get it back from them, then contact the doctor where the physical/lead test was done and ask them to give you a copy or sign a new form indicating when everything was done.  Hope this helps.
