Okay the other day My CPU had a registry error that wouldn't let me boot it up when i started the CPU and it had this error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

okay after trying and trying to fix it with my XP OS CD( RETAIL VERSION)

It WOULDNT let me FIX IT

SO i Decided to just wipe my entire C: drive the NTFS and install the a brand new XP OS

do i need to get new drivers and updates?

I really think i should of NEVER have installed this new OS

now i cant do anything everytime i want to install something i get an error

  1. Ouch you made one HUGE mistake ....before wiping a computer clean you should go to your comp manufacturers website and download all the drivers needed without those your computer will not work. You will  see you desktop and all that but wont get sound or internet or certain graphics.........Just go to a friends comp and download them to a disk and install them on your comp and youll be all set.

  2. Go here for help as you need step by step help

  3. The \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYTEM file (it is a file, not a directory), is the registry "hive" location and it was corrupted. it sometimes can be restored from a backup, but it's too late for that now.

When you re-installed windows, did you do a full re-format, or just install windows again to the existing directory. It sounds as if you did the latter, not the former.

As far as the internet browser problem, you are missing your video card drivers, and your speakers don't work because you are missing your audio drivers.

It sounds as if you have an HP/Compaq computer and instead of using the built in recovery (press F10 on startup), you used a regular old windows disk that does not have the drivers needed for all of your hardware devices. You should use the HP recovery instead.
