Question:

Help With a Baby Name

My best friend since high school is 7 months pregnant with a baby girl and looking for some baby names. I know this is usually a sacred tradition to be done between husband and wife but her husband died a month ago of cancer so I offered to help her out since I love her dearly and am so proud of her for being strong thru all this.

She wants to name the baby after another female member of the family, mainly her mother Theresa and her sister Helena.

We even looked up variants of the two names and found Helah (sounds close to Helena) and Thera (dutch version of Theresa). She says it doesn`t matter what the names mean. So which do you like best and why?

Helena

Helah

Theresa

Thera

Some other variants of Theresa and Helena

Selena

Helen

Helene

Lena

Thanks for your help! :)

  1. Lena is a cute one--a bit more modern than Helena/Theresa...You could always use one of these names and make a nickname...Helena=Lena....Theresa=Terri....

  2. selena

  3. You could easily incorporate both names by using one as a middle name ! Like:

    Ella Theresa

    Tessa Helena

    Lena Theresa

    Good Luck! :)

  4. I like Cherise it gets the 'Reese' sound from Theresa, and Helene in honor of Helena as a middle name they sound nice together

  5. My favorites are Helena, Helah, and Lena.

  6. I like Helena and Selena. What was her husband's name? She could use a feminine version as the middle name.

  7. I think Selena is a beautiful girl's name!

  8. i really don't like either the name makes a person and when i picture those names i picture a old person sitting on the porch out in the country while her husband picks corn....try something cute for a child but not to awkward....and think about what looks good on an application....I just saw hayden somewhere else and i think that is gorgeous....It's starts with a H so it could be like her name was inspired from her sisters

but if it has to be one of the choices...Lena is the best

  9. Alena (prounounced A-lay-na) is also a form of Helen. I have always loved that name! Selena is pretty too!

  10. I like Theresa Helena or Helen Theresa.

  11. Lena is my favorite because it sounds cute and girly. It reminds me of the name Laney, and I love that name.I think of a bouncy little girl with golden curls. Thera is pretty as well.

  12. Seven

    Soda

    Go with one of those...

  13. I like Helena or lena they are both very pretty

  14. lena! love it

  15. First of all my condolences to your friend - what a sad story!

OK - I say "no" to Helah - I think people would associate it with the slang "hella" - like hella good, etc.

Helena is pretty, as well as Theresa, but I don't really like Thera

I also like Lena and Selena :)

Maybe a feminine version of her husband's name (if there is one) for the middle name?
