Help XP Anti virus and NO Internet!!

Question

I got the XP Anti virus 2008 virus around last week so i first downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy it looked like i had the virus off but just to make sure i also downloaded Smitfraudfix and ran it in Safe Mode after i finished doing all the things it told me to do i booted my computer in normal mode but it wouldn't let me log in to yahoo or yahoo answers (it would say encoding error or the web page cant display) and also when i went to some web pages like MySpace it would re-direct me to the av-xp-08.com or something like that so i could do a scan in my computer.

After i saw that i thought i still had the virus so i booted Smitfraudfix in safe mode again and did everything all over but when i booted my computer in normal mode i didn't have internet!! BUT when i booted my comp. in safe mode with networking i had internet so i still don't know if i still have the virus or if i might of deleted something important (ive already tryed re-installing firefox). oh and one more thing: each time i try to turn my computer off a blue screen appears saying that windows has detected an error....and it reboots up again so i now have to turn it off manually by pressing the button for around 3 sec. so can SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?!?!?!?

Looks like time to re-install your OS.  Take your hard drive out and buy a USB cases, that way you wouldn't be activating the virus when you connect it to another computer.  Just make sure you don't run anything there, just scan and copy important files.

I had the very same problem.  To avoid going crazy, the easiest thing to do is download

Believe me, I downloaded Spy-Hunter, and it said it removed this, but it did not remove the stuff from the registry, and the pop ups continued and continued.  The malwarebytes is free, and you don't have to do anything complicated.

It is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to the well known XP Antivirus rogue application.

XP anti virus sucks and i had to fix my aunts computer cause they had it and it just ruined it even tho it was suppose to help you. i had to reformat the computer. tho save everything on a disk before you do this!!!!

right click on task bar and click on task manager

then go to process tab and and right click on these process and click on end process

XPAntivirus.exe

then click start go to run and type regsvr32 /u shlwapi.dll click ok

again click start go to run and type regsvr32 /u wininet.dll click ok

search and delete these files

xpa2008.exe

XPAntivirus.exe

XPAntivirusUpdate.exe

shlwapi.dll

wininet.dll

XP antivirus

XPAntivirus.lnk

Uninstall XPAntivirus.lnk

XPAntivirus on the Web.lnk

Uninstall XP Antivirus 2008.lnk
