  1. I agree with Drew Carl. When you yourself make fun of your accent in front of others, they won't do it anymore! Just be patient, and think of it as a natural reaction others usually have to new things. i bet in a short time your accent will become very natural for the people around you. Just be patient and DON"T REACT!!! :)

  2. Get over it, they're probably just having a bit of friendly banter.

  3. make fun of it yourself.  people will find it charming.

  4. There probs jelous cuz everyone loves american eccents

well me n my mates do any way

    good luck

  5. Act like it doesn't bother you and people will generally stop.

  6. if it bothers you get into a speech class that can help you with your accent.

  7. It's part of life. I travel almost every year to the south and people notice something different. I'm a New YOAKA, so we speak funny. If it really bothers you, just tell them to knock it off. If you don't want to tell them that, then just try to speak like them. It's the only way.

  8. Either watch local news broadcasts on TV until the Aussie accent develops, or mimic John Wayne and call everybody "Pilgrim" and bust 'em in the chops if they give you a hard time.

Personally, I never met a Aussie that was adverse to partying, and they don't get picky if there's plenty of beer around.

    Good luck.

  9. .......AMERICAN?  FROM PERU MEXICO OR BRAZIL ?

  10. Stay polite, keep smiling and play it up. Chicks are attracted to exotic, Besides, I've heard Aussie guys are too macho and turn their own chicks off with it. Make the most of it and let us know how it goes.

  11. There's no need to feel bad or ashamed of your accent, every nation and has different accents when it comes to English and as you're talking the same language with the people in Australia, accent shouldn't be a problem ;)

  12. Don't over-react. They're probably only having a laugh. If not, just wait a good few years and you should have a Melbourne accent.

  13. English has so many different forms, it is nearly impossible to learn them all.  Even here in the United States, we pronounce the same word a dozen different ways, and we call the same thing by different names in different parts of the country ("couch" "sofa" "davenport" or "pancakes," "flapjacks" "flannel cakes," "wheat cakes," etc.)  It is easy for people not in your situation to tell you to "get over it," but it can be uncomfortable to be made fun of because of your accent.  It is certainly possible to learn the accent of the locals, and if it really bothers you, try going to a "dialog coach" (you'll find them in acting schools).  The cheaper, and faster, solution is to be proud of your accent, learn as much of the new one as you can on your own, and be certain that many of your new acquaintances actually enjoy hearing you use it.

  14. I love the Australian accent, don't ever lose it.  For those that are making fun of you because of it they are clods with no class.  They are too  dimwitted to understand that they are the ones with a funny way of talking in any other part of their own country.  Forget about them and go on about your business, You will find that in the right company your accent will be an asset,

  15. Return to the U.S.A. as soon as you can!!!!
