ok so this may sound weird, but i have like a huge fear of having a heart attack. I am 14 years old and i like 3 weeks ago my left arm felt numb, so right away i thought it was a symptom of a heart attack, and now it's stuck in my brain. i went to the doctor, and he said my blood pressure and heart beat was fine, but still i am worried. i know it's in my head, but i can't help but worry about having a heart attack. And when i think about it my chest starts getting an uncomfortable feeling (not really pain, just discomfort) i am not that overweight, (5'8 and 138 pounds). and it like sucks because im afraid of being home alone because like if i do have a heart attack, no one would be there. can constantly worrying about it actually cause me to have a heart attack?

  1. Try eating foods that lower your cholesterol to ease your thoughts. But to me it sounds like your thoughts are over powering your body. It is always better to be safe than sorry so take care of your health. Try doing cardio and knowing that you are eating healthy and exercising will ease you mind. Good luck.

  3. Okay, maybe you could try this. Taking an aspirin keeps heart attack patients from dying. You could carry an emergency aspirin.

Then you could hear this story. I know of a man who thought he was having a heart attack. He took an aspirin and drove himself to the hospital.

So...if you are alone and have a heart attack, you will be able to call 911.

You might think whether you know what makes you have this fear. Did it happen to somebody in your family or did you see somebody have a heart attack?

Sometimes just all the stuff on TV and in magazines and on the computer can make people afraid. You mention your weight so I suspect you are reading or somebody is scaring you about overweight.

If it is any of these things...mute the tv for commercials and don't watch talk shows about this subject. Don't read it either. Don't read diet literature. Diets don't work. You can eat right, but on days you don't, don't panic.

Finally, I can't come up with this article because I don't know where I saw it. But it said that a recent study shows that 50% of obese adults are heart healthy. So maybe you will worry less.

Are you having panic attacks? Feeling suddenly terrified and like you might die? If so, say to yourself or out loud...I am really scared. I am panicked. Then try to think of things you are scared of. Write them down or say them. Probably the feelings will stop. Just don't suffer a panic attack in silence and try to make it go away by ignoring it.

If something else is making you afraid about heart attacks that I didn't mention, talk to somebody or add it to this question.

  4. YOu should ask your parents if you can go for a thorough physical exam with your family Dr. Then after you have that and they assure you, youre alright, you need to address that ANXIETY causes symptoms similar to a heart attack. its caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain. That requires medication and talk therapy.

First rule out that there is no physical problem, then ask for help for a therapist, social worker or psychatrist to see you about your anxiety.
