  1. Relax completely and arch your back.

  2. lie on your back in very shallow water and lay there and relax and take very deep breaths and arch your back and make your stomach come out of the water.

  3. I'm a swimmer too. And when i was like 5 i started swimming -,-. And i was never freaky about the water. Maybe try on some floating equipments and see.(in your own time not the swimming practice) Also try it on a baby pool if you are scared.

  4. Take a deep breath. Full lungs will help keep you afloat on top of the water. When you exhale you sink a little lower into the water.

  5. My husband had a really hard time doing it for scouts and he has to reach behind his back and grab his ankles to pull it off.  He was just not fat enough to do it like I did, back in the water and so on.  If you have access to a pool, you might try it in the shallow end so you can "touch down" and feel less freaked, or floating on the ladder.  Something to ground you until you get confident.  They have littler kids blow bubbles, too.  It sort of helps you fight the air.  Good luck and keep practicing.  You'll get there.  And even if you don't, floating isn't everything.  My hubby loves to swim and still can't float!  If it is a requirement for scouts, I think they now have an alternative badge for non swimmers.

  6. arms out wide

    legs straight out

    BELLY UP! :]

dont be nervous.. your instructor is right there if anything happens which is wontt.
