I am considering getting the Mirena IUD and I was wondering if you have it or have had it; did you like it? How were your cramps and such? Anything about it please tell me so I can make a decision. I need something really safe due to having MS and being on a strong medicine. I wouldn't want to get pregnant and something be wrong with the baby from these very strong meds. Please help or any advice would be thankful.

  1. I have the Paraguard IUD and love it. Paraguard is the non-hormonal one (it's a copper piece they insert in your uterus).

Ask your doctor to numb you before they insert it, otherwise it can be painful.  Take 600 mg of Ibuprofen a few hours before it's inserted.  I had very mild cramping and a little bleeding mid-cycle.  I think the side effects are more mild if you get it soon after having a baby, which was the case for me.  My friend, who has never had a child, experienced more bleeding and cramping than I did.

The copper IUD is very safe. I highly recommend it!!! I never feel it and never have to do anything. I can go to the doctor to get it removed whenever I want. It will last 10 years otherwise. Just make sure your insurance covers it. My didn't, which i didn't realize and it ended up costing $500 for the IUD itself and another $500 for the doctor to implant it.

    Good luck!!

  2. Althought I have not had Mirena in a long time I already feel like its great.... I got it in friday took 600mg ibprofen and really did not feel "PAIN" as people said I would.... Slight cramping.. slight spotting.... few days later no sign I even have it in.... I mean everything has different effects on people some people mirena was NOT FOR THEM... but some people are compatible... you need to see what works for you....
