I am going to be in xc (xc= cross country btw) at my school this year and I don't have much stamina really, it wears me out doing 100 meter in track, I know, lame. I only run during track meets during school and I always do 75 meter and I always win it but I will be running much more than that in xc and slower but i still need help building up my stamina. And I know running can help with that but isn't there more to it than that?

p.s. I don't like to run around my neighborhood becuz I feel stupid and self-concious so i ride my bike. Does riding my bike help any?

sorry about all the questions people but I'm just really excited thank you if you answer :) I appreciate it

  1. alright biking is really... its good, but nothing beats running.

    running offers the cardio workout, and you working the right muscles and everything...dont worry about the neighborhood spectators, at least you're running.

    haha and trust me.. you're not the only one.

    remember that when you do the 100 meters, you're sprinting..XC is about pacing.

    during practices..youll build on your endurance, running miles and miles with your team.. cause see, if you have a 5k race.. you can't just train 5k, you have to do more than that.

    since you're beginning..go by time. Assume you do about 10 minutes per mile..so if you want three miles, do 30 minutes. I honestly don't think it would take you 30 minutes to run three miles, but the extra distance is good for you :) hahaha.. no but seriously, take it easy..start slow, you'll be great.

    xc is the best thing thats ever happened to me. its a demanding sport, but in every way it is worth it. phsyically... you become stronger than you'll ever imagined..and mentally..i cannot even begin to explain how it has changed me.

    if you have anymore questions, honestly.. you can email me. ahha i know that sounds weird. but

    xc=love.

    goodluck!

  2. I ran 10 minutes one day, 11 minutes the next, 12 the next, two days of rest, 13 minutes, 14.. And so on.

    It's pretty gradual, and it really helped me run better.

    And biking excercises different muscles, but it's better than nothing :]

  3. first answer was lovely. however if you are going to bike try to go up as many hills as you can and use high gears when your not. since cross country is pacing try to stay the same pace on the bike on high gear. or if you really want to build stamina go on the lowest gear possible to wear you have to pedal a whole lot to get anywhere, and go for a 30 minute bikeride on that. that way moving your legs a lot and same ammount of time as running a 5k race (slightly over 3 miles)
