  1. Look at d**k Smith and Jaycar websites. Find out web address through Google .

Building Speakers is a lot different from building Speaker Boxes of course.

  2. There are a lot resources on building speakers.

Partsexpress.com has an excellent section on DIY speakers.

Google speaker building and the results are overwhelming.

    Too many to list here.

Use car speakers on home audio equipment is tricky.

Most car speakers are 4 ohm impedence. Many receivers and amplifiers have no problem with them.

But a lot of newer receivers cannot handle a 4 ohm load and they tend to shut down or burn out.

Absolutely make sure that the amplifier can handle 4 ohms!

The lower the impedence the more current that is required.

    I hope this helped.

  3. I can tell you sound serious about this because you have the right idea in mind parts express is an excellent site because I got four subwoofers on sale 10'' 400 watts RMS power each for 35.00 on sale model # PW1087 royal blue the magnet looks like a carburetor in silver monster looking too.I got 2 speaker boxes at pep boys 10'' and replaced the paper woofers with my new speakers because the material is stronger plus I engineer the woofers wire two speakers parallel and made it 2 ohms impedance for a stronger sound spectrum the only thing you have to do is buy a amplifier that is 2 ohms rated plus make sure it has the flexibility to handle 4-8 ohms for more options.just make sure if you know you have 4 ohms speakers that you set the amplifier to 4 ohm  I have a two ohm amp but I can still use 4-8 ohms because mines don't have a swicth to select the omhs so the speakers will never overload or shut down the amp. I put capacitors on the tweeters and replace the mid range to a tweeter and muffle it to sound like a mid range with a capacitor for voice also because mid range speakers blow up very easy.the speaker boxes are faced stand up with the speakers at top and bottom I put a subwoofer crossover on the inside of the box and connected only to the top woofer while leaving the bottom netrual for voice response the reason for that is the bass will have to travel longer giving it an extended bass drive plus I capped of the top air duct of the bass ports leaving the bottom to release the air flow of the speakers to get a better bass response it's a lot of engineering that you have to do in order to make it sound perfect and before you start make sure you insulate the inside of the box with fiber glass for a tighter bass response you have the right idea and you should do some home work on electronics and get a friend involved to help out as well that's how i did mines.the best thing about it is you end up spending less for excellent quality than buying two pa speakers which can range about 400.00 to 800.00 for poor quality material like paper woofers.Good luck!

  4. Since this is in the Home Theater section, I am going to assume we are talking about Home speakers.  Don't go out and get car speakers or this.  They are designed to work in a totally different environment.

Here is a link to a website I find to be near and dear to my own heart.  Hey have a bunch of different deals,  you can also buy the cabinets, or they give you some schematics to build your own.

They aren't all cheap, but they are all quality......
