  1. i think that it describes a quiet place (village) where people could handle living their even though it is a faraway and quiet place. they could ring without bells, and I would say that they could eat without food, breathe even without air!!

they could survive in that place and the writer wonders how they could do that, I guess that.

you would read it this way:

    The village where they live

No life!! Oh- what do they do?

    in that dead place

    that's how i felt it.

  2. usually a good haiku has a 5-7-5 syllables in all those stanzas. but if you want i'll help u out.

'the village where they ring' is actually an everyday activity where the villagers do make sounds, not really bells.

'no bells! -oh!' is the absence of that sound present.

'what do they do at dusk in spring?' is the explanation why the village is quiet. it's dusk, no one's awake so the village is quiet. as for the spring, maybe it's the villager's habit to sleep early during those times.

in general, this haiku represents activity and liveliness during day time and peace and relaxation during night times. a wild guess of mine is that the haiku was written in the midst of spring :)

    hope this helps :)
