I put one application of Hartz ultra guard spot flea treatment on my cat. I put it on the back of his neck where i thought he could not reach it. But now he is l*****g himself and i cant tell what is spit and what is medicine. He is also l*****g his mouth like he has a bad taste or something. Will this kill him? Or make him sick? Is there anything I can do?

  1. Maybe ,you could look on the package ,and ,contact the company for any assistance. Hope this helps and good luck!!

  2. My cat did the same thing and it made him sick (vomit ting).  I've also heard it causes skin irritations that can lead to scratching continuously.  My vet also said the over-the-counter kind is ineffective and not to use them again.  Just use one from the vet.  They work better and are non-toxic for your cat.  I know they are slightly more expensive but they last longer.  In the long run you're just better off.  For now...  wash off the other stuff so he doesn't get sick.  He'll be OK though.  Good Luck!

  3. no that shouldnt make him sick although you need to get your cat to stop this as the flea treatment will not work any more as he has licked it off. there are flea collars and tablets although these products do not work very well. revolution and frontline plus are the 2 i would recomend for a cat and both are spot on treatments. many supermarket brands are not teasted on animals so they dont really know if they work at all. anyways to stop you cat from l*****g make sure to pop the spot on  on to the skin instead of the fur, so part the fur when applying. also make sure its high on the back of the neck so your cat cant get to it. also giving your cat attensiion straight after putting the spot on on him helps or giving him a treat or a play toy to take his attension away from the spot on. and the last option is to pop into your local vet and purchase a callar elizabeth collar (bucket collar). they cost up to $20 and you can put this on your cat till the spot on is absorbed. good luck

  4. Yes ingesting this medication can make him ill. The application of a topical medication should go right about where his collar would be and not any lower. You would do best to bathe him if possible. On another note you will probably find that Hartz topical may not do the job of completely keeping off the fleas and ticks nor will flea collars.

By the way someone else posted to give your cat garlic.

DO NOT give any animal garlic!! It is part of the oinion family and is TOXIC to animals.

  5. the best thing to do wud be to wash the medicine off and either giv your cat flea tablets or a flea coller or spray him. i doubt this would harm the cat as its a small dose but dont use this method again as it cud harm your cat in future.

  6. The best thing to do is call your veterinarian.

  7. It won't kill but might make him sick.

I was told by a vet that the topical treatments can be washed off after an hour.  By the one hour mark it won't hurt to remove the remaining treatment.

  8. sorry i dont know what to tell you due to him l*****g the stuff off but im sure hel be fine, but what i can tell you is in future if you dont want to use this stuff again you can crush garlic into his food and it will go through his blood stream and no fleas or ticks or any other unwanted pest will want to lay on your cat again!! hope this helps and again sorry i cant be more helpfulxx
