Help choosing a kayak

Question

I do not have alot to spend on a kayak and wanted a hard shell sit in and was looking at pelican breaks. Is this a good kayak to start out with? If not what is?

I vote for the previous answer. I made that mistake ONCE.

actually ended up with a sit on top. better suited my needs.

Pelican is a decent boat as is Emotion Kayaks and also Heritage Kayaks. I like the heritage brand because its very comparable and well made for less money.Pelican can tend to be expensive. Pretty much any of the Rotomolded unit are nice.

Please, do not buy a kayak without trying it out. Advertising cannot describe what your personal reaction will be to their product. Visit dealers, many will provide an on-water tryout. The associated gear that you need will cost as much as the kayak! Helmet, PFD, skirt, paddle, air bags, clothing and a car rack. Try a kayak class and you can gain actual experience in many boats.
