  1. Only if you go with a HIPAA plan. These plans are guaranteed issue but they don't guarantee the premium. The premium could be over $1000 per month. To qualify you must get the plan within 63 days of loosing your COBRA coverage and you cannot have any other coverage during that time.

Depending on the condition you may qualify for a "regular" policy. The condition may or may not be ridered. The insurance company could also possibly increase the premium but cover the condition but the increased premium would be much less than HIPAA.

If the condition is minor there may not be any problems. Sometimes the insurance company will waive any pre-existing waiting periods for minor condition if you've had insurance in the past.

You should visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can help you select a plan which will give you the best coverage available for your situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent.

  2. Of course you can. They may charge a little extra on the premium.

  3. Unfortunately it is not likely you could get an individual health insurance plan due to the pre-existing conditions.  They would likely either deny coverage or put a rider on the condition (not cover that condition).

Your best be will be to get a group health plan through an employer, and as long as you do not let your coverage lapse more than 62 days then their will be coverage for pre-existing coverage.  Otherwise, they can look back 6 months for pre-existing conditions and they would not be covered for up to 12 months (credit would be given for any coverage in the prior 12 months).

  4. No, you CANNOT get health insurance 'without a problem' with preexisting conditions.  Even if you live in a state where insurance companys are required to write you and cover the conditions, they're ALLOWED to charge a phenomenal rate for that policy - like thousands a month.

If you have preexisting conditions, most places, the insurance company is allowed to exclude them, or charge you more for them, or flat out deny you a policy, depending on what they are.  Don't wait until the last minute when your cobra runs out.  Start shopping about six weeks before it's up.
