Question:

Help connecting laptop to tv... am i doing something wrong?

i purchased a VGA to component (RGB) cable to connect my laptop to a tv. the cable instructions said it can also be used to connect to red-white-yellow, but that did not work. i also tried the red/green/blue component inputs on my tv, didn't work. when i connected it red-red/green-white/blue-yellow, i did get a very mangled picture, but nothing nearly viewable. this laptop has been hooked up to several projectors with no problem recently, and the vga port works fine, also works fine with other computer monitors. am i missing something here? thank you for any answers!

  1. It will not work for a composite picture(the yellow of yellow red white, BTW red and white in that type are audio which will not work. You must connect to a component input as well as change the type of output on the laptop to Y Pb Pr and not RGB.

  2. I used one for awhile too. the one I had only worked with a few different resolutions. If it came with any instructions, read then and make sure that the resolution your computer is using is supported.
