Help connecting my Scientific Atlanta 8300 to a Toshiba recordable DVD?

I previously connected my recordable DVD to my TV as a player and that worked fine. Now I am trying to re-connect it to my cable company's DVR. I have followed their instructions, but it just doesn't work. Now I no longer even get a picture from the DVD on the screen. Any tips how to connect the recordable DVD to the cable company's DVR.

don't forget the remote control.  it has a tv/video button that runs you through the different video inputs your tv has.  Mine has 7 plus the main cable 3 setting.  

Also, you have a tv/dvd input button because the dvd player automatically kicks over when you hit play.  It could be stuck here if the dvd player is just sitting there "on"
