Help convincing parents to let me buy a pet rat!!!!!?

i need help on convincing my parents to let me use my own cash on buying a pet rat

first are your mom and dad afraid of rats? if so,ask them if you can PLEASE buy a rat and tell them you are responsible and will clean its cage and keep it in your room.

by the way i am deadly afraid of rodents so yeah..........

I agree with what Dave said. My mom HATED rats, and never allowed me to have one. Then one day we went to my cousins hosue, and it turns out they got one a bit ago. They aren't like the sewage rats you see in movies, they are kind and gentle creatures, and my mom fell in love with them and wanted to buy one after ^_^

So those are possible questions that you need to be ready for.

If your grades were good last year, and you did well in school, and you keep your room clean, I don't see why any loving parents would say no to your request. On the other hand, if your room looks like it went through an earthquake (and you don't live in Los Angeles) and you never take out the trash, they're going to think twice..

Don't go and buy one behind their back though. They're going to be pretty upset.

Wow, I think it's really cool that you want a pet rat. I never knew anyone who owned a pet rat. I went on www.mypetrat.com and learned some cool stuff about pet rats I never knew before. Educate your parents on pet rats, maybe they could check out that website. They may just want one after that! You never know.

certainly - I had pet rats for years.

1. they are clean animals, unlike myth about them. As long as you keep the cage clean they won't smell.

2. They are highly intelligent- they are trainable like a dog; they can even be litter box trained.

3. They are excellent companions.

Now, I will give you some guides - no high water veggies for them like lettuce - that's bad for them.

Get females - they are nicer and they don't spray like males will. And they smell like spices.

Get more than one - they are animals that need the companionship - and you will be at school part of the day. Two females are good.

Get them from somewhere like Petco or PetsMart, because they guarantee their animals are disease free.

keep their cage way from a heating vent or source - they can get a tail problem from it.

well i don't think the expense is the issue, i mean rats are only like $10 and then maybe another 40 for his cage and stuff. the problem is your mom. i tried to convince my mom and she won't negotiate, period. you may not want to get too attached, because if your mom is like most others, she won't tolerate any rodent or reptile to her knowledge of existence in the house. sorry...:-(

Forget trying to convince your parents that a rat is an acceptable pet.  Try instead for a guinea pig or a hamster if you must have a rodent.

Hedgehogs need too much care.  White mice get sick too easily.  Geckos are pretty easy pets if your parents don't mind stopping at the bait shop for live crickets once a week.  And for heaven sake, don't turn loose of the container until the opening is IN the terrarium.
