  1. Well, for starters, an Avocado plant needs a tropical environment. If you have one then it'll grow.

Also, here's the snitch... my wife said Avocado trees take time to grow and even takes a longer time to bear fruit!

So, if you have a couple of years to spare for waiting a yummy avocado fruit.. then go plant one!

    So, there... :-)

  2. after you got the seed from the fruit...dont plant it imediately..let it "dry"(the seed)..after that..when it is already dry...put a water on the glass, and try to soak half of the seed's body into it...for two or three weeks the roots will try to grow, thats when u plant it on the soil..goodluck

  3. u would need to use a pot with good new soil and miracle grow for it to grow... and when it's at a good height u can transfer it to a spot in ur back yard

  4. If you plant the ‘pit’ flat side down, rounded side up – it will grow. Take the ‘pit’ out of the avocado and plant it as soon as possible. If you plant it upside-down, it will not sprout.

It could take as long as ten years for it to bear fruit and there is no guarantee the avocados will be the same as the one you planted.

As has been suggested it is better to get a grafted tree from a nursery or a dwarf variety which will flower either the year you get it or soon after that.

You can select a cultivar that bears the fruit you like best.

There are a number of types – fruit sizes, skin textures, colors, flavors, ever-bearing and seasonal.

  5. No harm in trying the suggestions above...If you really want an avocado tree that fruits, buy a grafted plant from a nursery because it will flower.

Avocado trees can be grown in sheltered positions in temperate climates (they're tropical).  They prefer deep, well drained soil and need regular watering in summer.  The trees are self-shaping so no pruning is necessary.  Scatter a complete fertiliser beneath the drip line of the tree when flowering commences in spring.  Repeat the treatment two or three times during summer and early autumn.
