When I was younger I tried using the applicator tampons but they were always uncomfortable. I started using OB tampons and was able to get them in much better, they aren't so long.

Maybe try these, and go through the pamphlet in the tampon box to show her.

dont go in the bathroom to help her! im 12 and i totally freak if my mom sees me in even my bras! she might be different, but it will still be embarrassing i would guess. i agree with the dude that suggested the youtube video. and i suggest making a puberty kit with all that junk in it(pads and tampons and other c**p) and tell her u are there for her and not ot be embarrassed. and tell her that she might not get it the first time. she just has to figure out how. its not something u can do for her.

She is your daughter so I would suggest going in the bathroom with her and assisting her in putting it in. Also, teach her the the importance of changing them regularly to avoid TSS.

i would tell her to use pads, especially at this age,

but if she has to do the tampon thing,tell her to put her leg up on the toilet seat, and push backwards, and not nesesarily upwards...

WOAH THERE! Are you sure she isn't starting or anything? If she isn't tell her, that when she does, then you'll tell her. Because, it would be good to practice. I mean, if shes 12, she be starting soon.

I guess you need to just get her some pads and tampons that are the really light ones. Have her wear the pads for now and then try the tampons whenever she likes or whenever she feels ready. Try and get the instructions out of the box and explain it to her with those pictures that are already provided. It might make more sense. And use a tampon and sit down with her when you explain it. Use the tampon and simulate it just in the air on the table. As her if she has questions.

Take a tampon and show her how you push the applicator out and explain about the angle of your body and such.

Maybe my sister can come over and show her.  She is a 6th grade teacher and does the health ed program at the private school she teaches at.  The other two 6th grade teachers aren't comfortable with it so they passed it off to her.  She said she gave a demonstration to the class.  The girls love her!
